Sloppy Joes

Saucy, tangy-sweet ground beef simmered low and slow, piled onto toasted buns.

Weeknight comfort that costs little and freezes flat. Reheat a portion and toast a bun for a two-minute dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp Cajun blend or Smokehouse rub
  • Buns, to serve

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef with the onion and pepper in a skillet; drain and transfer to the slow cooker.
  2. Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire, brown sugar, mustard, and spice blend.
  3. Cook on low 4–6 hours. Serve on toasted buns.

Make-Ahead & Storage

Freeze flat in bags up to 3 months; vacuum-seals well for reheating from the bag. Toast fresh buns at serving.

Notes

A splash of hot sauce or a spoonful of BBQ sauce rounds out the tang. Also great over baked potatoes or rice.
